Dr. Tilmann Steinmetz
Dr. Tilmann Steinmetz obtained a Master of Science in Physics from the University of Stuttgart in 2015 and completed his doctorate at the Ludwigsburg University of Education in 2021. His dissertation entitled "Cumulative Teaching and Learning in the Physics Teacher Training Program" explored the development and evaluation of a teaching concept for the profession-oriented training of prospective physics teachers.
Between 2016 and 2023, he was involved in the Teacher Training PLUS project at PSE Stuttgart-Ludwigsburg. In July 2023, he moved to the University of Tübingen to work on teacher training courses on digital technologies in physics lessons as part of the MINT ProNeD project. Since February 2024, he has also been teaching physics at Kolping-Gymnasium in Fellbach.
His current research interest within TEIFUN focuses on the use of AI language assistants in physics lessons. The aim is to expand the possibilities of open task formats, which are rarely used in physics learning despite their high learning effectiveness due to the high level of supervision required, through AI-supported tutoring systems. These systems should provide individual feedback and adaptive learning support to promote the use of open task formats. The project is being carried out at the University of Tübingen in the working group Didactics of Physics and aims to empirically validate the effectiveness of these teaching methods in real school lessons.
