Dr. Kateryna Derkach began her career as an English teacher in Ukraine. She then completed her Masters in applied linguistics and her PhD at Cambridge and Oxford. After her PhD, she worked until recently at Oxford University Press, where she was able to complement her practical and academic experience with perspectives from materials development and publishing. As part of TEIFUN, she will now be working at the University of Stuttgart at the Institute of Linguistics and at the University of Tübingen at the Department of Linguistics (working area: Theoretical

computer linguistics). The aim of the project is to bring together all of these perspectives in order to research the role of artificial intelligence in the acquisition and development of listening skills in foreign language teaching. She plans to use AI-based, personalized tutoring systems to accompany and support pupils and teachers individually in their learning process.
